The re-entry visa allows foreigners with a permit of stay whose validity has expired to return to Italy. A re-entry visa can also be requested in case of a stolen permit of stay. Processing times for this type of visa can take up to 90 days.

On the day of your appointment the following documents must be provided:
- Application form duly completed and signed;
- One passport size color photo, white background, maximum 6 months old (see specifications);
- A valid passport (and a copy) satisfying the following criteria:
- its validity must be at least three months longer than the visa requested;
- it must contain at least two blank pages;
- it must have been issued within the previous 10 years;
- Copy the lost/stolen/expired “Permesso di soggiorno”;
- Previous Schengen or National Visa;
- A declaration describing in detail the situation of the applicant and the reason for asking the re-entry visa together with any supporting document. The declaration must also mention the exact date of exit from Italy and the address of residency;
- If the “Permesso di soggiorno” was lost or stolen, copy of the Official Police report;
- A non-refundable visa fee of 116€ is applied (only cash, no change is available);
- Once the authorisation has been received, the applicant must provide one way travel ticket reservation.
In order to release the visa, the Consulate General will need to be authorised from the competent Questura (Police station).
